What is the West Central Alliance?
Dec. 14, 2020
Listen in to this first episode of the Talking Contradiction podcast to hear about the mission of the Allied.
Welcome to Talking Contradiction, I’m Bobby Winsler, usually joining along side me is Alyson Brennan but today you just have me, coming to you from the AMN Studio on the Allied Media Network and we are taping this introductory show for the AMNtv YouTube audience as well so I would like to welcome them. Let’s get right into it.
I’m a college professor, having earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida I now teach ADPR courses at the University of Tampa. I open the very first class of each new semester with the same question: what are you doing here? The students almost always get it wrong. The answer is not to get a good grade or to take a step toward graduating to get a good job, which are often the responses given. The goal of asking the question is to get students to understand the value is not in the result of what happens after the class but rather understanding the reason for them being there is the knowledge that can be obtained in the class itself. Concepts are only as good as the metaphors we assign to them and the most cliche metaphor to describe this is that class should be about the journey, not the destination.
In 2021, we’ll be embarking on a journey. If you’re watching this, then you’ve undoubtedly heard several different names thrown around such as the West Central Alliance, the Allied Media Network, and a series of additional titles. This confusing list begs the question, “what am I doing here?”
